The Colorado Division of Water Resources (CDWR) provides a wide range of water related research tools that are available online free of charge. These enable users to retrieve Division of Water Resources’ water data contained within HydroBase; including streamflows, lake levels, water rights, diversion records, calls, etc. Additionally, tools like CDWR's Map Viewers provide spatial toolsets to retrieve and analyze information. Research tools may be divided into two classes: Tabular Data Query Tools, which return textual, tabular data; and GIS / Mapping Tools, which use a GIS interface to display and retrieve data.

Additional data and document research assistance is available through our Records Research section. Imaged documents, such as copies of well permit files and water court cases can be viewed via Imaged Documents (Weblink).
The Call is a term used by the State Engineer to effectively communicate the administrative status of the natural stream. The Call communicates the priority required during a specified period of time for a water right located within a specific stream or stream segment to divert under the Prior Appropriation Doctrine. The basic purpose of the Call is to “call out” water rights that are not in priority in order to make water available to the senior water right that is diverting less than its decreed amount of water that it could beneficially use.
Aquifer Determination Tools (These programs were historically known as SB5 and Dakota)
Tools for estimating the top and bottom aquifer elevations and the thickness of the water yielding sands in the Denver Basin and Dakota/Cheyenne aquifers.
Evaporation, Temperature, Precipitation and Snow Depth data from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and the Colorado Agricultural Meteorological Network for the state of Colorado.
Groundwater - Geophysical Logs
Geophysical Logs (well logs) are the detailed record of the geologic formations penetrated by a well, including aquifer top, bottom, and saturated sand thickness.
Groundwater - Water Levels
The Division of Water Resources, in cooperation with various local groundwater management districts and partners, operates a statewide network to monitor groundwater levels. Read more about DWR groundwater administration and well permitting.
Other Data including Agriculture and Livestock Statistics.
Historic published streamflows and Provisional Administrative gage data from the Division of Water Resources and the USGS.
Surface Water Current Conditions
Real-time satellite streamflow monitoring data from gaging stations maintained by DWR, USGS, and our cooperators. Includes graphing ability and station information.
Structures (Diversion Records)
Information about Diversion Structures, Reservoirs, and Wells. Can include irrigated lands, diversion records, and/or water right information.
Water Rights - Net Amounts
A Water Right is a property right that is either conditional or absolute and conveys the right to use a particular amount of water, with a specified priority date as confirmed by the water court. The Net Amounts List contains the current status of a water right based on all of its court decreed actions.
Water Rights - Transactions
A Water Right is a property right that is either conditional or absolute and conveys the right to use a particular amount of water, with a specified priority date as confirmed by the water court. The Transaction List contains the court decreed actions that affect the amount and use(s) that can be used by each water right.
Well Permit Search
Provides detailed reports about well applications and permits with links to related imaged documents. Search by permit number, address, subdivision, or other criteria to pinpoint the well of interest.
Colorado Information Marketplace
The Colorado Information Marketplace open data application allows users to filter and export large datasets from the Division of Water Resources' HydroBase database. Click the links below to access each dataset.
